Transylvania… the land beyond the forest. The name sounds like it comes from a fairy tale, like Narnia or Neverland. And there are thousands other reasons to fall in love with this place. The Carpathian Mountains are unique in nature and landscapes, once seen you will always recognise a view on any picture. Medieval castles and towns keep the spirit of kings and knights taking you to a back in time travel. Remote mountain villages let you forget about 21st-century rush and plunge into real rural living tightly linked with nature in every detail of everyday life.

In this holiday tour, you will visit all must-see locations, but we will not allow you to get bored of long motorway drives between them. Every minute of the travel is filled with the significance of Romanian history, culture and just real life experience.

We leave Bucharest and drive towards Ploiesti to arrive at the footsteps of the Carpathian Mountains. The winding road trough rocky valleys and a secular beech forest will bring as deep into the Siriu mountains. We leave the forest road and follow a narrow path to the alpine pastures. The broad grass valley will take us to a Transylvanian border village in Vama Buzaului. The final part of today’s route will go by an old logging road to Brasov. Here we stay overnight.

We leave the Brasov area and move to the center of Romania, passing trough Saxon settlements, cross the Transylvanian Plateau to the village of Viscri to see one of the oldest fortified churches in Transylvania. We arrive in the evening at Sighisoara, the medieval town preserved for hundreds of years and now recognized as one of the most significant citadels in Eastern Europe.

We stop to visit the Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, the major landmark in the history of Eastern Europe. In the evening we arrive at Deva.

Day 5: Thursday

We start the day with driving trough small roads and forests to the Old Village deep in the mountains, where we stop to see the private collection of traditional costumes from the area and also eat the famous sweet cheese pie, made by local people.
