“IE (ie – ee-eh)” are not just two letters. It is a powerful word with a meaning of tradition, fashion, inspiration and hard work. This is not any word, this is the name of a blouse made in Romania, a national symbol that we are celebrating today world wide, on June 24th. This blouse has been hand made in Romania for centuries, it takes time and precision to sew it by hands with a needle and a thread. Traditional embroidery and popular designs used in certain parts of Romania are different. Bright red, green or sober dark green, burgundy and natural brown, tan, black are just a part of colors used to decorate this blouse. A pattern can contain symbols of trees, flowers, sun, water, waves and so on. Altogether they tell a story of the one who wears an ie, about his origin and history. And each one is a unique piece of art. Nowadays this blouse is often dressed by women, in Romania and anywhere in the world, but men also can be seen to wear it at traditional events. In the last years fashion designers also started to create blouses inspired from the Romanian tradition.
Celebrities from all over the world were seen wearing ie in their usual day to day life: Halle Berry, Kate Moss, Jennifer Garner, Adele, Anne Hathaway and more.
